What makes our Security Systems better?
You
might have seen an advertisement for a $199 Security System, or even
a FREE security system... that
conveniently failed to mention the 3 to 5 year contract.
This is, in essence, what sets us apart from all the others. We sell excellent security systems, professional installation, and state-of-the-art monitoring service; we don't sell contracts. So what's the difference? Let me try to explain.
Most security companies stopped selling security a long time ago when they figured out that selling contracts was more profitable long-term. They don't charge you for the equipment because they know you will be more likely to buy their system if you don't have to make any up-front investment. They then use the contract to ensure that they get their money back and then some over the term that you agree to.
Now you might be tempted to get out the calculator and start crunching numbers to compare the cost of our No-Contract systems with the cost of our competitors' Contract systems over the 3-5 year period in which their contract is binding.
Let me save you some time and do that for you now.
Sample SmartHome Automation system:
Equipment and Installation: $349
No-Contract Monitoring Service: $19.99 / month
Total cost over 5 years: $1548.40
Sample Competitor system:
Equipment and Installation: $0
Monitoring Service with 5-year Contract: $39 / month
Total cost over 5 years: $2340.00 (That's $791.60 more!)
Hold On!
Don't base your decision on these numbers alone. The big security companies hope that you won't get this far in looking at the numbers, but they REALLY don't want you to make it to the next step: looking at the long term cost.
What I'm about to tell you is a closely guarded secret of industry insiders. This is by far the dirtiest of the dirty laundry in the security industry. It's something called an installer code. Before I explain what it is, let me explain why it's so important.
You are probably thinking that if the cost of their system over the contract term is at least reasonably close to the cost of our No-Contract system, then it may be worth it to avoid the up-front cost. This is exactly what they want you to think.
Now here is the cold, hard truth. This comparison is only valid if you plan on cancelling the monitoring service at the end of the contract period. But very few people do this. The vast majority of people continue to pay the same monthly fee for years or even decades.
So let's reexamine the comparison with this more realistic scenario in mind.
Sample SmartHome Automation system:
Equipment and Installation: $349
No-Contract Monitoring Service: $19.99 / month
Total cost over 25 years: $6346.00
Sample Competitor system:
Equipment and Installation: $0
Monitoring Service with 5-year Contract: $39 / month
Total cost over 25 years: $11700 (That's $5354.60 more!)
So now you're probably starting to see a little more clearly how this works. But you may be thinking, "I could get the contract system from the competitor and then cancel the monitoring at the end of my contract. Then I could let you guys take over the monitoring from that point on to avoid the long-term costs."
Now we must return to our discussion of that dirty little secret called the installer code. Security systems are designed with the big companies in mind. Thus they have a special code that is required to make changes to a system, such as its monitoring service. Because of this, you are stuck with whoever installed the system for you for as long as you own that system.
Now that may sound good in some communist country, but for freedom-loving Americans that doesn't sit too well. But this fact is exactly what our competitors are counting on and it's the one thing they will never tell you.
The contract guarantees that they will make some money off of you, but the installer code gives them the potential to make a killing over the long term. This is what they are truly after.
So let's get back to where we started. What makes us different? Simply put, we are here to make a living by giving you excellent products and services at a very good price. The numbers speak for themselves, and the business practices speak for themselves. And if that's not enough, just talk to some of our customers and they will speak for us also.
